Do You Know Joe Girard?

The Guiness Book of World Records has proclaimed Joe Girard, "The World's Greatest Salesman."

During his days as an automobile salesman, Joe, for 12 straight years, sold more cars and trucks than any other salesperson. In fact, as an individual, he sold more cars than most dealers sell in total, and all of them retail.

Coming from hard and humble beginnings, Joe had been thrown out of high school, fired from over 40 jobs, and had even failed at being a petty thief!

But in 1949 things began to turn around. He met a man who "took him under his wings" teaching Joe how to be a building contractor. Joe became pretty successful and in 1961 he contracted to build a number of private homes.

Unfortunately he had accepted the word of a real estate speculator that said the area was to have a sewer system installed. Poor Joe, he went on the man's word instead of checking things out and finally found out this just wasn't true. Individual septic tanks had to be installed, which meant the homes became greatly de-valued.

As a result, Joe lost his business. It was Christmas and Joe Girard had no job, no savings, and found himself in debt to the tune of $60,000.

Then the final blow came.....

On a cold day in January, June Girard tearfully told her husband there was no food in the house and the kids were begging for something to eat.

On that day, Joe Girard found himself at the absolute bottom of the barrel.

It was either see his kids starve or go out and find something. After pleading and begging the manager of a car dealership to hire him; the manager finally gave in and gave Joe a small desk at the back of the showroom.

When Joe's first customer walked in that day, just before closing time, Joe thought to himself, "There's no way this guy is getting out of here without buying a car from me."

Joe Girard remembered his hungry kids at home, then looked at his customer and saw......a bag of groceries!

Within a month he became so successful at selling cars that the manager fired him! He was too aggressive and the other salesmen were upset.

But Joe had found his calling and it wasn't very long before he was hired at another dealership where he worked until the day he retired in 1978.

Recalling that first sale, and telling what made him the Greatest Salesman In The World, Joe says this:

"Want. My want. That was all I knew. And that want was enough to drive me to say and do enough of the right things to sell that customer a car. I am not saying that that's all there is to it, then or now, but that is most of it."

"If you want, and know what you want, you will have most of what you need to be a successful salesman. I mean that. Nobody can be a successful salesman without wanting. Wanting something very much. And the more you want, the more you drive yourself to do what it takes to sell."

"Once I saw that first customer as a bag of groceries to bring home to my family, he was sold, whether he knew it or not."

A Tribute To America

One of our faithful readers, Janet Kirkland, has put together a Web page filled with some great pictures you will want to see as a tribute to America and the recent tragedy.

She has kindly consented to allow these pictures to be viewed for the benefit of our readers.

Besides putting up pictures and sending out daily inspirational quotes (some of which are used in this e-zine), Janet is currently a personal aide taking care of disabled persons.

Janet has done this kind of work for 15 years. She tried various other jobs, but has found helping disabled and handicapped persons is the most rewarding.

And then in her "spare" time, she adores panda bears, loves Nascar and drag racing, and likes to fish, camp and hike, besides meeting new people and chatting to them.

These pictures make great wallpaper. The wallpaper I am using came from her site and is the "Proud To Be An American."

The Return of "Big Brother"

Carnivore

The Internet equivalent of a phone tap will soon become commonplace. A system called "Carnivore" has the ability to monitor all data flowing through an ISP.

Carnivore can be set to look for traffic from a specific person, then record it, or capture all e-mails going through an ISP.

To use Carnivore, the FBI sets up a special computer at the of each ISP, then plugs it into the ISP's server. Many of the big name ISP's have been "watched" by Carnivore for some time now. It's just a matter of time before they hit all the locals.

Echelon

Echelon is the supersecret eavesdropping operation which the National Security Agency uses to monitor virtually ALL electronic communications around the world.

Echelon is driven by a complicated and sophisticated system of computers, satellites, and ground stations. The NSA is budgeted nearly $7.3 billion every year and has a staff of 38,000; more than any other single Federal Government agency.

Encryption

Encrypted messages are deciphered by "keys." The NSA has already devised methods to uncover these keys and read the encrypted e-mails. It is expected to soon become law for all software makers to hand over their keys to the NSA upon creation of any encrypted messaging software.

White Man Speak With Forked Tongue

The following are excerpts from an editorial in the Sept., 24, Investor's Business Daily. The article was written by Betsy McCaughey who is currently adjunct senior fellow at the Hudson Institute and former lieutenant governor of New York.

"The U.S. is the single largest source of humanitarian foreign aid to Afghanistan. American resources have been pouring into a country, sheltering Osama bin Laden, one of the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted," indicted for the 1998 bombings of the U.S. embassies in Tanzania and Kenya, believed to be responsible for the stealth attack on the USS Cole at anchor, and linked to the bombing of the World trade Center."

"Yet last May 17 (2001), Secretary of State Colin Powell announced the U.S. was BOOSTING humanitarian foreign aid to Afghanistan, sending over $124 million worth of products through international channels to a nation that provides sanctuary for bin Laden."

"The Clinton administration ALSO BESTOWED GIFTS on bin Laden's hosts. Just four weeks after the bombing that massacred 17 American sailors on the Cole, Clinton's team RAISED humanitarian foreign aid to Afghanistan above the $100 million mark.

Fellow U.S. citizens, our tax dollars are being spent to fight the dragon and then feed him at the same time. I've searched the IBD and the Wall Street Journal every day since that article and have yet to found anyplace that states this foreign aid is being rescinded.

Does any one else think perhaps the American people are being bamboozled here?
